What is an Ogee?
“a sinuous line of double continuous curve as in S” (The Oxford Dictionary)
The term “ogee” is well known to architects; it can be seen all over churches and other buildings – in
everything from arches to skirting boards! Ogee curves are also seen in clock design and knitting.
However, it is because of a much more modern use of the term that my company is named thus.
The distinctive wing shape of Concorde is an ogee and I have strong links to that amazing aircraft,
sadly flying no more.
I started my career as an Undergraduate Apprentice at British Aerospace who, along with
Aerospatiale in France, were building the Concorde at the time. As a trainee, I even installed some
hydraulic pipes in Concorde’s nose undercarriage bay! The precision needed to build Concorde,
more than any previous commercial aircraft, taught me to exercise a very high degree of quality in all
my work, a characteristic I still have to this day.
So for me Concorde, and its distinctive ogee-curved wing, represents my focus on working to the
highest standards, using the most advanced thinking and techniques, to deliver the best results for
clients.
